Weekly Greeting - May 28th

This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday.  In the Old Testament, Isaiah prophesied of the coming of one descended from King David upon whom the Spirit would rest in power.  Like the prophet, Joel, Isaiah proclaimed that the Spirit would one day be poured out from heaven.

Just before he ascended into heaven, Jesus assured his frightened disciples that they were about to experience a new baptism, that they would be filled with the Spirit.

Acts 2 describes the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples in a powerful way.  While prior to the coming of the Spirit the disciples had been frightened and timid; afterwards they became bold and courageous, sharing the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world.

God’s Spirit is still available to us all, enabling us to do what we could never do on our own.  Thanks be to God!

Dr. Steven Hoskins from Trevecca University will be preaching this Sunday as we celebrate Pentecost Sunday.  Wear red as a symbol of the presence of the Holy Spirit with us!

It is also John Knorr’s last day with us as our worship coordinator.  Following the 9:30 service we will have a brief send off and reception for John and Christy.

After the reception, we will have a combined Sunday School time in the sanctuary to explore the meaning of Pentecost Sunday and the Holy Spirit’s role in the church in the sanctuary.

Come prepared to be blessed!
