FENTON WARREN
A class aimed at empty-nesters (late 60’s and over), but is open to all ages – singles and couples. The class is named for a former minister of Bethlehem UMC. This group tends to select different books on religious topics to discuss for their lessons including Bible studies, Difficult Bible Passage books and books about living our faith. Usually the class does a Lenten and Advent study each year. Often choose books based on the author particularly:
Adam Hamilton
Barbara Brown Taylor
Amy Jill Levine
Tom Berlin
Rob Fuquay
Last summer the class discussed some of Pastor Craig’s sermons and that produced lots of discussion and engaged everyone, even people who rarely speak out. Currently, the class has not done a study on controversial topics like race relations, LGBQT, political issues. Teachers for the class are members and the schedule is on a rotating basis. The format of this class is group discussion, not lecture.
Even though the class has been around for a long time, it is very welcoming to everyone. You can sit and listen or you can voice your thoughts which will be heard and respected. The class knows that we learn a lot as the Holy Spirit speaks through our classmates.
