Weekly Greeting - January 19, 2024
Dear Bethlehem Family,
My birdfeeder has been a very popular place the last few days. Since early fall, I had not seen a lot of birds at our feeder in the back yard until snow started falling this Sunday. I had no idea I could enjoy watching birds eat as much as I do.
I believe we were created to be helpers, to care for our planet, one another and even the animals that live all around us.
In his “I’ve been to the Mountaintop” message by Martin Luther King, Jr. whose birthday we just celebrated he says, “When we see someone in need we often wonder what will happen to us if we help them?” He went on to say, “… the more important question might be what will happen to them if we don’t?”
I am sure the little birds in my backyard would find something to eat if I didn’t feed them. However, I truly love knowing that in a small way I have helped them find their way on a snowy day.
I really do believe we were created to be helpers and I am so grateful to be part of a church family committed to helping others in so many ways. Stay warm and keep up the good work!
Blessings,
Craig
We are continuing our New Year’s worship series, Fresh Start: Make the Most of the New Year this Sunday. Our text is Revelation 3:14-22. The passage describes the risen Christ’s admonition to the Church of Laodicea. The people and the Church of Laodicea thought of themselves as wealthy because of their material possessions and resources. Jesus saw them as impoverished and not experiencing life as fully as it can be lived. Is it possible our wealth and the level of our comfort sometimes prevent us from caring for others? I encourage you to prayerfully read our Scripture for this Sunday as you prepare for worship.
