Weekly Greeting - January 12, 2024
Jim Elliot was killed on January 8, 1956 while serving as a missionary in Ecuador. He was 29 years old. He and four friends had travelled to an isolated and notoriously violent Huaorani tribe to share the gospel. They were all killed within a week of their arrival.
Elliot is credited with coining the famous quote, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”
It has often been noted Elliot was a brilliant and gifted young man who could have done many things with his life, and yet chose a path some would consider foolish. As we begin this new year I’m led to think about my own willingness to step out of my comfortable routines and find a way to let others know what Jesus means to me. I am also led to give God thanks for young people who respond to God’s call in their life willing to choose paths that others would consider foolish.
I am grateful to be part of a church that seeks to reach the world with the love of God and pray that we will be willing to serve in ways and places that enable all people everywhere to have an opportunity to hear the Good News.
Blessings,
Craig
This Sunday we continue our new worship series, “Fresh Start: Make This Year Count!” Our text is from Acts 27:23-26 which describes events that occur during the Apostle Paul’s voyage to Rome where he hopes to stand before the Roman Emperor and give an account of his faith in Jesus.
During one of the many setbacks he encountered, Paul is visited by an angel who encourages him and assures him he will stand before those in power in Rome.
It is hard to grasp how powerful that encounter must have been between Paul and the angel God sent to him. It is easy for us to long for such an encounter yet we have resources Paul himself did not have. Join us for worship as we identify what those resources are and give God thanks for them. See you on Sunday!
