Weekly Greeting - December 15th, 2023

Dear Bethlehem Family,

During my devotional time recently I have been reading an Advent prayer written by Henry Nouwen from his book, Advent and Christmas Wisdom.

I encourage you to pray it alone or with your friends and family as you prepare for the coming of the Christ child this special season:

Lord Jesus, Master of both the light and the darkness, send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations for Christmas.  We who have so much to do seek quiet spaces

to hear your voice each day.  We who are anxious over many things look

forward to your coming among us.

We who are blessed in so many ways long for the complete joy of your kingdom.

We whose hearts are heavy seek the joy of your presence.

We are your people, walking in darkness, yet seeking the light.

To you we say, “Come Lord Jesus!”  Amen

Blessings,

Craig

This Sunday is the Third Sunday of Advent, also known as Gaudete Sunday. The word “guadete” is derived from the Latin words “gaudium,” joy, and “gaudeo,” to rejoice or be glad.  Gaudete Sunday is observed each year eight to thirteen days before Christmas.  There is joy in looking forward to the annual celebration of Christmas.  Our text this week is James 5:7-8 as we anticipate Jesus’ coming again to renew all things.  God is at work and this is a great time to be a part of the family of God at Bethlehem!
