Weekly Greeting - March 7, 2025

Greetings friends,

This is the first week of the Season of Lent.  Lent is a 40 day time of preparation for Easter, beginning with Ash Wednesday and ending on Easter Sunday.  Sundays are considered feast days and days of celebration and are not included in the 40 days of the season.

Our worship series this year through the Season of Lent is Soul Food: We Do Not Live By Bread Alone.

Lent is also associated with the theme of wilderness.  Our text for this Sunday is Luke 4:1-13 which describes Jesus’s 40 days of prayer and fasting in the wilderness of Judea.

Just as God’s Spirit led Jesus to a time of reflection and prayer, we are called to a time of reflection and prayer as we head toward the celebration of Easter.

The Psalms contain a beautiful prayer that can guide us as we enter this holy season:

Search me thoroughly, oh God, and know my heart.

Test me and know my anxious ways;

and see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me,

and lead me in the everlasting way.

Psalm 139:23-24 (Amplified Bible)
