Weekly Greeting - July 12, 2024
Dear Bethlehem,
The Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference (SEJ) of the United Methodist Church will meet July 10 - 12 at Lake Junaluska in North Carolina. Jim Allen, who is a member here of Bethlehem, has been a delegate to the SEJ for several years and will be attending this year’s conference as a Tennessee-Western Kentucky Conference (TWK) representative.
There are 5 Jurisdictions in the United Methodist Church. The SEJ represents 14 annual conferences across nine states.
The responsibilities of the jurisdictions include:
— promoting the evangelistic, mission, educational, and benevolent interest and institutions of the United Methodist Church.
—-the election and deployment of bishops.
—-appointing various committees to nominate leaders to serve within each jurisdiction and at the broader General United Methodist Church level.
— supporting the ministries of each jurisdiction and holding them accountable.
At this year’s conference, the new bishop for the TWK conference will be announced on July 12th. Please pray for the work of the SEJ and all the jurisdictions across the United Methodist Church.
God bless!
Craig
