Weekly Greeting - March 8, 2024

Dear Bethlehem Family,

In John Wesley’s preface to his “Explanatory Notes upon the Old Testament,” he includes directions on how Methodists should read the Bible. Below is a slight paraphrase of his suggestions. :

1.     Set apart a little time every morning and evening.

2.     Read a chapter out of the Old Testament, and out of the New Testament; or simply read a single chapter or part of one chapter.

3.     Read this scripture with the desire to discern God’s will.

4.     Before and after you read, pray that what you read may be written on your heart.

Obviously, we Methodist are to read the Bible not just for information, but for transformation, so that our lives can be transformed, and we can be empowered to do God’s will.

We do not worship the Bible, but the Bible is an important resource in pointing us to the one we do worship.

If you are not part of a Sunday School class or small Bible study group, I invite you to consider joining us for Coffee & Conversations with Craig hosted by the Path to Abundance Sunday School class (CLC 205) or any of our great Sunday School classes.  It is such a blessing to study God’s word with one another!

Blessings,

Craig

We are continuing our series, Love Divine this week, based on Charles Wesley’s famous hymn.  Our Bible passage is from the Book of Numbers, chapter 21:4-9.  Sometimes God guides and blesses us in unexpected ways.

Join us for worship this Sunday as we explore God’s response to a people who have proven to be unruly and ungrateful.  How do you see God at work in this fascinating story from God’s word?
