Weekly Greeting - March 28, 2025

Greetings friends,

My son is getting married this week. I guess I always knew that he probably would one day.  However, now that the day is actually here, it’s a little hard to get my mind around.  I am really excited, but I guess I’m also a little in shock.  I am the officiant for the wedding and I definitely feel prepared.  We have discussed what will be included in the service.  I know the order to send the attendants and family in, I know where to stand, I have my notes all printed out; but I have also learned something in presiding over dozens of weddings down through the years…. As important as it is for the ceremony to be orderly and to go as planned, it is more important to mark the occasion as a celebration of joy.

It is an occasion to celebrate the wonderful love and grace of God.

If Adam and Eve were married, as I always assumed they were, then God was the officiant for their ceremony.  I am sure God did everything smoothly and orderly, but I also believe God took time just to enjoy the wonder of the occasion.  After all, life and love and marriage and wedding ceremonies and other festivities are all God’s idea.

So even, if I forget to send someone down the aisle at the right time, even if someone doesn’t stand in exactly the right place, even if the musician hits a sour note, I know my son and his beautiful fiancee’ will be just as married as they would be if there were no “mistakes” in the ceremony.  In fact, I really don’t even mind when something unexpected or out of the ordinary happens, it reminds me God loves us just as we are.

Blessings,

Craig
