Friends and guests between 6th and 12th grade are always welcome at all of our youth events!
Dear Parents and Youth,
We’re so excited for our Harvest retreat this weekend at Camp Widji! Speaking of retreats, I’m excited to bring Discovery Weekend to Bethlehem UMC. Mark your calendars and save-the-date for January 10-12, 2025! Discovery is a powerful weekend of renewal and spiritual formation for middle school and high school students, held in the local church. That’s right, Discovery Weekend will be held at Bethlehem UMC! The model of Discovery Weekend is similar to Emmaus or other three-day weekends, but instead of being a community event, it’s for the youth and friends of our very church. The high school students are trained to serve in leadership alongside adult leaders. They are trained to share their faith, lead disciple groups, games and worship. Discovery isn’t just a weekend for youth; it’s a weekend for the entire church to support our youth.
Throughout the weekend a series of talks are presented by youth on the basics of God’s love, the joy and forgiveness of Christ and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The entire series of talks is given in a sequence that is intended to guide participants by opening an avenue of discussions to help them verbalize their faith questions in a safe environment and hopefully lead to a renewed or new relationship with Christ. Through large and small group discussions, meaningful experiences of worship and prayer, new friendships, and laughter participants learn about the rich connection between faith and the challenges of daily life. There's also plenty of music, games, fun and great food!
Discovery Weekend is one of the most life giving weekends for young people in the local church. I hope you will consider being a part of this special experience. Registration will open on December 2. Stay tuned for more information coming in the weeks ahead.
Sunday school will not meet this Sunday, November 24 due to Harvest. We will resume on December 1 at 9:00 a.m. with a new Advent study, Almost Christmas. Youth group will resume on December 8 following Thanksgiving break.
St. Francis of Assisi: Make me an instrument of your peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Peace,
Alison Bocking+
Director of Youth Ministries
