Weekly Greeting - December 20, 2024

Greetings friends,

Merry Christmas!

In a recent sermon I mentioned the celebrations that took place after Elizabeth and Mary were told they were each going to have a baby.

Of course, neither Elizabeth nor Mary expected to be pregnant. Elizabeth was beyond the normal age for bearing a child and Mary was a virgin!

When the angel Gabriel came to Mary to tell her she was going to give birth, she very understandably questioned what she was being told.

And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.” Luke 1:34

In order to help Mary understand what God can do, the angel told Mary the story of her close relative, Elizabeth, who was miraculously pregnant in her old age.  When they both understood what they were being asked to do they responded faithfully and rejoiced in God’s unfathomable power and love.

Are there times in your life when God seems to be asking you to believe or do the impossible?  The miracle of Christmas itself calls us all to trust in what only God can do.  Only God could send us a Savior to free us from sin and death.  As we accept the gift of Jesus we become part of the great miracle story of Christmas!

Blessings,
